02 about

Born in South Africa and raised in the South of England, I am lucky enough to have gained experience working and living in different countries around the world. Currently living in Leeds, West Yorkshire, I enjoy a healthy balance of urban life and the green of the national parks surrounding the city.

I have always felt the need to take things apart to find out how they work, an urge that resulted in the confiscation of my 'Inferno' TransFormer when, at the tender age of seven, I decided to investigate the inner workings of my watch. Needless to say it never worked the same again, in fact, it never worked again. This inquisitiveness was to shape my education and influence my future more than I knew.

Like most kids, I preferred to learn only the things that weren't on the curriculum, reading books on anything to do with nature and technology. Choosing a healthy balance of A-Levels - Maths, Physics and Art & Design - I then headed to the University of Birmingham and got a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, I worked and lived in a number of countries including Canada, Germany and the USA. On returning to the UK I moved to Leeds to live with my long suffering girlfriend - now fiancée - Karen. This move proved to be the turning point in my career, having decided to move from engineering into a more creative role.

Currently working for a large corporate services company as a front-end web developer, I have been working towards building a comprehensive skill-set as an experienced web designer. I have also applied these skills to freelance work, examples of which can be found in the design and web sections of this site. I also like to keep up to date with the latest developments by reading books and blogs as well as attending conferences; both @media events have been excellent opportunities to mingle with leading web professionals.

Away from the web, on the odd occasion there is time, outdoor sports including mountain biking, power kiting and snowboarding - currently banned prior to the wedding - are enjoyed. I also have a passion for food and cooking and can often be found quality controlling a bottle of wine - not the same one - with my better half!
